Sponsor a Fruit Tree for Nature in Norfolk or North Yorkshire

This is a wonderful, fun and unique gift for a special birthday or anniversary, or ‘just because’.

Covenhope Reserve in Norfolk, has a wide variety of fruit trees that were planted around 2010. Organic apple, pear, damson and plum trees are interspersed with gooseberry bushes, cherry trees, quince and nut bushes.

These trees do not form a traditional orchard, and are found spread out across the reserve. Unfortunately they all need remedial work to ensure their survival. When the current owner took over, they had been neglected, and they now need help such as support against the wind, and expert pruning.

We have the following fruit trees available for sponsorship at Covenhope: Apple; Pear; Plum; Quince; Cherry; Gooseberry; Raspberry; Hazelnut.

If you have a preference, please let us know in the ‘Notes’ section, otherwise we will assign the next available tree.

At Windmill Hill, near Kirk Hammerton, North Yorkshire, we have an informal orchard of around 16 mixed fruit trees that were planted in around 2012. Many of these need attention. We generally leave the fruit for the wildlife, but on bumper years, it’s fun to pick an occasional apple or plum as refreshment during our work there!

At Windmill Hill we have Apples, Pears and Plums available for sponsorship.

Although not categorised as native to the UK, many of these species have been grown here for over a thousand years. Apples, pears and plums are all related and are part of the rose family.

The flowers of these fruit trees attract many pollinators. They are all important food plants for insects, butterflies and moths. Later in the year, their fruit is also a food source for birds and mammals.

Your sponsorship will fund the care of these lovely trees for five years. They’re an important part of the ecosystem at Covenhope and Windmill Hill, and also a feature of the heritage of the UK.

Sponsor a Fruit Tree: What will I get?

  • A personalised certificate of dedication, by email
  • This includes a personalised map showing the location of your dedicated fruit tree
  • The satisfaction of supporting precious habitat for countless species
  • The joy of knowing you are protecting a thing of beauty which has been part of the countryside for  decades
  • The knowledge that your support will help protect and maintain the fruit trees for five years or for life depending on your level of sponsorship
  • The opportunity to visit the reserve at an open day or event in the future and potentially pick and eat fruit from the fruit trees
  • If you take a five year sponsorship, on the fifth anniversary of your sponsorship, we will contact you to invite you to renew for another five years
  • If you take a lifelong sponsorship, your support will help our work in the longer term

Please note, you will not ‘own’ the fruit trees. For full Ts & Cs, please see this page.
