Sandlands Woods joined Make it Wild in early 2026.

Sandlands Woods is located near Boroughbridge. It’s a newly planted 10 acre site, with three woodland compartments at the edge of the village of Great Ouseburn. Planting includes over 30 different UK native species including some of the rarest found in the UK. The woodland will contain clearings and rides throughout to ensure a mosaic of habitats.

It is easily accessible from the road and is adjacent to the owners’ earlier project, of planting every one of the UK’s native trees. Also nearby are two established wildflower meadows, woodlands and ponds, making this a developing area of significant biodiversity.

The wood is only 200 metres from the Townend Nature Reserve, a newly established 20 acre SINC site incorporating flood meadows, woodland and streams. The owner of Sandlands is also a trustee of Townend Nature Reserve, and brings considerable experience and expertise to both projects.

Trees here are available for carbon offsetting, and you can also bring your colleagues to enjoy a conservation day here.
