At Fraser Farms, hedgerows and tree belts have been thoughtfully integrated into crop fields.  Your support helps us to care for these young native trees through their crucial early years.

These vibrant rows of trees and shrubs have been carefully planted in strips, interspersed with food crops. The strips vary from 150-300m in length. Each one is planted with between 150-400 native trees and shrubs. Wild flower seeds have also been sown, to create a rich variety of food and habitat for native wildlife. This is an innovative way to support nature within productive farmland.

Agroforestry brings wildflowers and trees back to the land, and with them, many benefits including:

• creating habitat for wildlife including insects, birds and small mammals
• capturing carbon both in the trees themselves and in the soil
• improving soil structure and health
• increasing biodiversity of flora and fauna
• providing shelter from wind

Research has shown that the crops adjacent to the strips grow better than those further away, demonstrating the benefit of biodiversity and the interconnectedness of nature and food production.
