Beguiling Bats Bat Walk  – our bat discovery talk and walk event.

8.15 – 11pm, Friday 25th July, 2025, Summerbridge, includes cake!

We’re also offering an optional guided tour, before it goes dark! 7pm – 8pm.

We are delighted to welcome David Watkins, local bat expert, to host this event at our beautiful Bank Woods, Summerbridge, in Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Firstly, you will learn the basics of bat behaviour, life cycle and identification. In our beautiful barn studio, David will explain some of the distinguishing features and fascinating lives of these iconic mammals.

After David’s talk, we will enjoy hot or cold drinks and cake. You can ask David your burning bat questions.

As dusk sets in, at around 9.45pm, we will take a short walk to our ancient woodlands and meadows, for the Bat Walk. David will use his thermal camera and share audio equipment so that we can detect and identify the different bats who call Bank Woods their home.

You can read about some of the bats you might see here.

Optional Guided Tour – We are delighted to offer an optional preliminary guided tour commencing at 7pm.

Helen Neave, retired consultant surgeon and co-founder of Make it Wild will take you on a short guided tour of the hidden areas of beautiful Bank Woods. You will see ancient woodlands, meadows and glades, and our wildlife pond.

You may well spot hare, barn owls and roe deer, as well as the Belties and Exmoor ponies who make up our conservation grazing herd. Helen will explain our approach to conservation and rewilding, all in time for the start of the Beguiling Bats experience.
