Our Solitary Bee Home is designed by an ecologist, as an ideal nesting location for various types of British Solitary Bees. They are species of wild bees in the UK that do not live in social colonies like honey bees. Instead they nurture their larvae in individual nest cells. Females will stock their individual nests with nectar and pollen and then seal it, leaving enough ‘provisions’ for the young to fend for themselves. Artificial nesting boxes with small tunnels and tubes can provide important nesting sites for these species. Solitary bees are excellent pollinators and will help your fruit and vegetables.
All bees are under threat from habitat loss and pesticides. Placing one of our Solitary Bee Homes in your garden is an easy way to help them.
This solitary bee home is made from sustainably sourced British timber, and painted in non-toxic paint.
It has lots of holes, of various sizes, from 10 – 20mm diameter, to suit different types of solitary bees.
It comes complete with a plate for attaching it to a post, wall, or tree in your garden.
