By special invitation! We are delighted to welcome Colin Unsworth, as seen on ITV’s  ‘This Morning’, to guide us on a fantastic Wild Foraging Walk in the woods.

We met Colin as part of The Free Wilders, cycling naked from John O’Groats to Land’s End in Summer 2022 in support of rewilding, and mental health charities, both close to our hearts at Make it Wild. He is also a well known mushroom expert, wild gin maker and green woodworker.

Come and join us on this Wild Foraging Walk! We hope to discover wonderful autumnal gifts of the woodlands. This is such a great way to connect to Nature!

To start the experience, you will be invited to taste Colin’s wild gins (or an alcohol free alternative). He has made these from wild berries, plants and mushrooms. This will infuse us with a lovely warm glow and a taste of nature before going further into the woods.

Next, you will harvest hazel sticks to make into walking staffs. Colin calls these Forager’s Friends – they will help us to balance on the steeper sections, allow us to hold nettles aside, and maybe shake down some nuts from the trees.

We will show you how to correctly identify a variety of fungi. You will also learn about responsible  and ethical foraging techniques. During the session, we will also explain how to collect your wild edibles in a sustainable way, with minimal impact on the environment.

We will return to our woodland clearing, with our baskets (hopefully!) full of mushrooms, and our heads full of new facts. Here we will examine the species we have collected.  Colin will teach us about edible and medicinal mushrooms.

Then on an open fire we will fry up a tasty treat full of fresh, healthy, seasonal, naturally grown ingredients. No international air-freight, no chemicals, no packaging!

Join us at Bank Woods for this wonderful wild experience 10am – 3pm (approx) on Saturday 2nd November 2024.

Please bring

Notepad, pencil and a camera if you wish. You may also wish to bring your own cup, bowl, plate and cutlery, although they will be provided.
