Sponsor an English Longhorn at Covenhope, near Hingham in Norfolk.

English Longhorn Cattle are a hardy native breed which are closely related to the (globally extinct) wild Aurochs that once roamed the UK.

The Norfolk based Longhorn conservation grazing crew are an important part of the Make it Wild team, allowing wildflowers to thrive by ensuring grasses do not out-compete them. They bring other benefits too – the dung supports insects and fungi, and their hooves disturb the earth and can create small areas of bare ground that is essential for reptiles who seek to bask in sunlight.

The Covenhope crew have lived outside, roaming and grazing organic pasture since they were born and enjoy a wild life similar in many ways to that of their ancestors. Unlike their wild predecessors, these spectacular horned beasts are subject to standard government livestock regulations – including veterinary treatment, TB testing and require specialist handling equipment to accommodate the horns!

Would you like to sponsor a heifer who is one of the founding members of the Covenhope Longhorn crew?

What will you get when you Sponsor a Longhorn?

  • A personalised certificate including a picture of our Longhorns, sent by email
  • The satisfaction of supporting our organic habitat creation and regeneration project
  • The knowledge that you are supporting biodiversity including reptiles, specialised insects and fungi
  • The confidence that you are helping the wildflowers return
