*New Dates for Seasonal Foraging in 2025*

Foraging in Yorkshire is a wonderful way to connect with nature on your doorstep!

There is something magical about heading out for a walk and returning with a basket full of edible treats. It’s such fun to cook a delicious meal, full of fresh, healthy, seasonal, naturally grown ingredients. No international airfreight, no chemicals, no packaging!

Join us at Bank Woods for Seasonal Foraging in Yorkshire where we will explore the meadows, hedgerows and woodlands in search of tasty wild treats. We will provide you with an insight into the wealth of food available for you to harvest from Nidderdale and the wider Yorkshire countryside.

Our course will take place in our beautiful Bank Woods, Summerbridge, in Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty, from 10.30am to approximately 2.30pm on Saturdays as follows:

Our guides will be Nicola, an experienced forager, who lives locally and understands the plants and fungi of North Yorkshire; and Colin, a national mushroom expert from just over the Pennines.

Spring event:

     29th March 2025 (with Nicola)

Autumn events:

     27th September 2025 (with Nicola)

     18th October 2025 (with Nicola)

     1st November 2025 (with Colin)

We will show you how to correctly identify a variety of plants, flowers and fungi. You will also learn about responsible  and ethical foraging techniques. During the session, we will also explain how to collect your wild edibles in a sustainable way, with minimal impact on the environment.

After filling our baskets we will have the chance to prepare and cook a light lunch over an open fire, with the ingredients we’ve found, as well as sampling other wild food treats. Depending on what is available, we may enjoy:

– A wild mushroom fry-up

– Wild quiches, soups and preserves

– Wild drinks, Herb teas

Please bring

A basket if you have one, for your finds, and a notepad, pencil and a camera if you wish.  If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in the ‘Notes’ section when booking and we will make arrangements for alternative recipe options.

“I learnt so much… and enjoyed the best mushroom soup ever!”

Thank you for a memorable day with Colin who is an encyclopedia on mushrooms, and so charming and enthusiastic. I learnt so much and was very impressed by how well organized our day was and the delicious lunch – the best mushroom soup ever plus homemade bread, cake and home brew gins!
