Our lovely hand made cotton produce bags are a great stylish way to cut down your use of plastic.
You will find them perfect to take shopping, so you don’t need to use a plastic bag. You can use them at the supermarket for fruit and veg, but they really come into their own if you are lucky enough to have a ‘zero-waste’ shop nearby! They are also ideal for use at farmers’ markets to keep your purchases protected until you get home.
We think that gift-wrapping paper is a terrible waste – and we use produce bags as gift bags!
They are made from ‘upcycled’ 100% cotton fabric. The production of new cotton requires huge amounts of water, fertilisers and pesticides. We have therefore chosen to give previously used cotton a new lease of life, rather than using new fabric. Your bag may have had an earlier life as a shirt, or a curtain! Some of our fabrics are ‘waste’ from bigger companies, so re-using it saves it from going to landfill. Your bag will last for many years, but being cotton, when you decide to dispose of it, you can simply pop it on the compost heap, where it will break down harmlessly.
You can wash our cotton produce bags by hand or in the washing machine.
The bags are hand made by Helen, in our North Yorkshire studio. To add even more eco-credentials, we are powered entirely by renewable electricity, through the use of solar panels and a large wind turbine.
Product Sizes and Details
All 100% cotton fabric. Sourced from industry offcuts and vintage finds. You can read why we do this in Part 1 and Part 2 of our article about Fast Fashion and the problems it causes. All fabrics are quality checked and prewashed in non-bio washing products.
If you have a preference for a particular type of fabric design or colour scheme, please email us via the ‘contacts’ page after placing your order and we will do our best!
The sizes below are the minimum – because our fabrics have had a previous life, the sizes of our bags wont be exactly uniform.
